Fi Q15's and Discus 2,000W Amp

I'm planning a system and I'm looking at the Fi series as they seem to be loved by just about everyone. I'm finding seemingly great deals on the MB Quart Discus DSC2000.1D amps (70% off - is this just a discontinued model?). But the question is, the 2 Fi's 1 ohm DVC wired appropriately will give me 1 ohm to which the Discus will provide 2,000W RMS. The Q15's are rated at 1,000W RMS. Is there any danger in running subs this close to their rated limit?

Any other suggestions on amps if this one is no good? I used to be into this stuff a lot when I was younger but have been out of it for a number of years so I forgot most of what I knew. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Thanks!

Thanks for all the replies.

are you running one or two discus amps?
Just 1 is planned. Output in 2,000W in parallel to get 1,000W to each sub, correct?

Get two subs that are Dual 1 ohm, and run the DSC2000.1 on them. I got those amps now, they are great. And Ive owned 30 FI/AA subs, so I can vouch for those too.
What's the difference between the .1 and .1D besides $100? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

On another note. I read somewhere that using an amp that outputs more power than the sub is rated for is ok because "distortion" is what kills subs. I didn't quite believe this but I got to learn first hand last night. My buddy gave me his old beat up setup (he left for the marines) so I went to replace the torn sub with a cheap one from the local shop. He had a Sony Xplod 800W amp. I assumed this was like 200W RMS max (You know how Sony exaggerates! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif). The cheapo sub I bought was rated to 250W RMS so I figured it would be fine. I bridged the amp and after about 10 minutes of playing the amp went into protection so I went to check on it. The trunk smelled bad and the cone wouldn't budge as I pushed on it. I took it out and a puff of smoke followed. I figured that was odd so I looked up the specs on the Xplod and it was 340W RMS bridged! But they 'said' that more power than the sub was fine! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif I take it it is not?

This was the place I first hear about this theory. http://www.carstereo.com/help/Articles.cfm?id=40 (under "How Much Power Do I need")

"A lot of people wonder if too much amplifier power can burn up the speakers. What damages speakers most of the time is distortion, not power. If the speakers have the proper crossovers and are not distorting, then it is really hard to blow them. A bigger amp just gives you the opportunity to go to higher volumes without distortion. Get the biggest amplifiers you can afford and your car's electrical system can handle. More power means louder sound, but most importantly, cleaner sound."

Are they just flat out wrong or am I misunderstanding something? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Edit: I should note that the LPF was on, Bass Boost was half or less, and the Gain was half or less.

that MB Quart won't give you 2000watts, only 1000watts. You're probably thinking of max rating.
It said 2000W RMS @ 1 ohm... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

there is only a 1000.1 and a 2000.1D, perhaps it was a typo on your part.

Ah! Indeed it was. DSC2000.1D is what I meant. Fixed - and thank you! What's the deal with the huge discounts on those? I assume they're just no longer produced?

what are you finding the 2000.1 for? around 300 bucks shipped?

$299.95 with free shipping from several places. What's the deal? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

i meant as far as something that can be construed at delivering 2000watts.
And these things are cheap just because they are, probably because they're produced overseas and what not. I don't believe they're discontinued by any means.
I see. They are made in Germany according to the box. Must just be another company saying the MSRP is $1,099 but selling them wholesale for $200. Makes people feel good that they are getting a deal when they really are not.
