fi q 12''

I have one 12 as well and I am not all that impressed with it to be honest. I love the guys at Fi and customer service is beyond good, but I have had this sub in numerous sealed boxes from 1.5 to 1.9 and I just cant get it to sound right. Might be something in my setup, but I enjoyed my type R's more. Even though I had two the sq just dont sound right on my Q. Sounds kinda muddy and just dont seem to have good lows for some reason. I listen to a lot of rock and just dont seem to be there for me. I have had mostly spl subs back in the day and when money didnt permit, I went cheap in the R's and was actually happy till I blew one. Then I decided I wanted something new and read all the hype on the Q. Like I said, might be my install or something with my bass amp as I know it shuts off after a good 10 mins of mild play, but when I jam on it, it just dont seem to keep up. I have maybe 800-900rms going to it, all my crossover pts are set right and my amp is at half if that. For now, I am not happy, but I refuse to stop testing things out as I know it has to better than this and hoping that something else is just wrong with my install.

Also again this is not to bash FI and its products. Is just my personal experience with it so far. So please dont take this as a bad thing. Just letting you know my own little adventure with it.

Have fun with it and hope you dont have the problems I have had, which the main one I wont put as It is not for this thread. Peace!

There is something I don't get, you don't like it but you have this on your sig?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

Sub-Fi 12" Q in a custom made 1.5 sealed enclosure that finally sounds right
Anywa I'm also curious on this Fi Qs, AA, RE, IA, ED, subs, but since I'm not in US I can't hear them so I have to stick with what I can hear around JL, Kicker, MTX, etc.

My main concern with all this brands is that they are only popular for a little time and then all of a sudden they are not the "big thing" anymore:crap: . For example 1-3 years ago the only thing recommended was RE and all it's line of products, today not too much comments on them:furious: .

To the original poster, enjoy your Q men, and post some pics/vids.

I have not heard great things about the Q sealed. I have the 12 in a 2.3 cubed box tuned to 27-28hz and it gets very low and loud. This is with 1500 watts rms. I just do not think that it would shine in a sealed box with 1000 watts or less. My Brahma didn't so I'm sure that the Q won't either.

Might be the whole problem right there with my setup. I might try a ported box, but is too cold to tackle a new box right now and my table saw is a my dads. So maybe spring I will hit that up. I have heard though that if you listen to a lot of rock that sealed is better. Just might be an opinion thing though.

Also to Booker, I need to take that out, but that is more geared as I finally got it too work as I had a horrible noise coming from the pole vent part and had to send it back to get fixed. I guess I should have worded it different.

so you guys think that if i do like 2.5@33hz it will wang...heh my goal is to be as loud as my one friends 2l7s sealed on a kx2500 running at liek 4 ohms or somthing

Try one of 80's bandpass boxes. I was initially going to go sealed but I wanted to hear the lowend output of the Q ported so I had 80 do a 6th order for it. It had great SQ for a ported box so I left it in it. The roll-off is very impressive. It plays very flat from 25hz up to 70hz.

P.S. I notice a huge difference in the lowend when I switched from a x600.1 to a x1200.1. I'm going out on a limb saying this but maybe a sealed Q needs a butload of power.

A buddy and I had a 12" Q in a 1.8 cuft ported box tuned to 32Hz off 1100 watts RMS and that thing slammed. I don't think you NEED 2.0 cuft +, but it might be a nice luxury if you can afford the space.
