It's obviously a statement from Fi, broham. If they can afford to develop that ridiculous looking motor, surely they could attach a nice looking basket to it as well...

Not necessarily, they specifically say this trickled down from a non-car audio application and is just a prototype. If there is no need in terms of clearance and cooling, they then are not going to spend the money to tool a new basket. Seeing as Fi has full machining capabilities in house for something like this motor prototype, it is far less expensive for them to work the design up and machine out some steel and neo then it would be to tool up a new basket.

Seeing that here and one other site, it is mostly uncertainty, criticism and speculation, I can foresee some confusion. Go ahead and post the link in the initial post if you want.

At this point money should no longer be an issue for Fi, whether it be paying to develop proprietary baskets or whatever. And I'm not saying there's something "wrong" with a 12 spoke basket, but a subwoofer company that's continuously growing should eventually put some money into making their subs physically different than the dozens of other companies out there.

And this applies to several other companies as well. I'm not picking on Fi alone...
