Favorite 8" or 10" sub/amp combo

Been cruising here for the last month or so looking around. Coming from a Tahoe with a 12w7 and HD750 amp. Looking to get either a new 4Runner or a VW Golf(depends if I get a job in the city). Anyways I don't need a huge thump like the w7 anymore. I want good SQ. I also don't want a giant box so an 8 or 10 will do. I'm thinking sealed. Wondering what your guys favorite combos are. The Sundown SA look beefy and pretty easy on the wallet. Have looked at Sundown, JL w3, Rockford Punch line, and alpine type R. Love to hear some feedback. Also not looking to spend too much. Less than $500. More so around the $300 range. Don't need anything top of line ear shattering but I don't want **** quality. I value quality very much. Also a few recomendations on a 5 channel amp that doesn't break the bank would be nice. The Jl ones are nice but I'm not looking to spend that much. Thanks

What this guy said, and use the same amp, just ease off the gain a lil bit.
