Faulty Relay Inside Amp?

I dont really know the inner workings of amps, but I'd assume their is some sort of relay that the remote turn on wire trips... Anyways, my Eclipse amp seems to have something faulty with it, nomatter if the remote wire is even in the terminal, the amp stays on. As long as it is getting power, it is on. I did a ghetto remedy by putting a 100amp relay on the power wire but I want to know if this is an easy fix for an electronics repair place. I opted to install the amp myself so I only got a 1year instead of 3 year warranty on it, and its over //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif Anybody familiar with this problem? I mean its no big deal for me, but if I want to sell the amp I dont want to have this annoying problem with it.

Well, there's certainly got to be something wrong inside the amp, but it's hard to say what exactly. Suffice to say it's rather odd that it turns on and stays on whenever power is connected. Can't say that I've ever encountered that particular problem.

Hopefully someone else who might know more about the amp's inner working could tell you what specifically you need to look at or replace. You may even wanna give Eclipse's tech support a call and see if there is anything they can suggest besides sending the amp in for repair.

Look at this schematic.

This is a generic idea on how a switch mode power supply works.

J2 is the remote wire input. It drives a transistor called Q5 and in turn

drives a relay to turn on the power supply. Not all power supply designs

use a relay on the turn on circuit, but the point I want to make is if that

little transistor is bad it may be shorted causing it to be 'on' all the time.

If you want to dig deep into your amplifier all you have to do is trace

the remote wire on the printed circuit board and find the transistor

or circuit that it connects to and debug from there.
