Fat Furry Bees. Do they sting?

bumbblebees sting, seen one sting a penguin in the mouth today at the zoo:),, bald face hornets(the white ones) are wusses compared to the big yellow english hornets.I dont kill wasps or bees for no reason but i had to waste that nest, they were dangerous.

So the fat furry ones do sting? Supporting link?
I dont believe it, theres no way mommy was wrong lol
If you are talking about bumblebees then yes they do, I have been stung by them many times.

The ones around here sometimes have furry patches that look almost neon green.

I think what you are thinking of are called carpenter bees???? I believe the females sting, but they usually stay in the hive, and the males have no stinger..........if I remember. I think the male cant even bite so realistically they are harmless since the female is usually not flying around. never been stung by one and we used to have them on our garage trim all over the place.

Worker bees(the ones that actually leave the nest) are all female, the male bees (drones) gaurd the entrances to the hive and do not sting, they bite with their large mandibles.

bumble bees are very timid compared to honey bee's, and basically a butterfly compared to the majority of Africanized bees. I used to catch them, bare hands, when I was a toddler and youngin all the time. Just don't make them scared or purposely piss them off and you'll be straight.

Here's what I heard. The ones with the black face sting, bit or what ever.

But the one's with the black face and white dot on there head dont sting.

And I know they dont cuz you can catch one and tie a string around it

and hold on lol hahaha

The female Carpenter Bee (wood bee or boring bee) will sting if provoked. The male has no stinger, but it can bite you and is what you see most of the time as it's job is to guard the females larva.

There are 3 kinds of Bumble Bees. The queen, the worker, and the drone. The queen, and worker are both female and can sting multiple times, the drone is a male and has no stinger but it too can bite.

So yes they do sting, but it's not very common. Especially a Carpenter bee as it's usually inside the hole it bored in the wood. You can tell the difference between a Bumble Bee and a Carpenter bee by the abdomen. If it's shiny it's a Carpenter be, if it's hairy it's a Bumble Bee.

I remember once when I was around 9 or 10 me and my neighbor were playing in a field beside my house when we stumbled upon something that sounded like running water. Well to make a long story short, my neighbor poked the area with a stick, which was just a big wad of grass. Next thing you know, I was carrying him to his house from about 40 Bumble Bee stings. Most were on his face and the top of his head. The kid almost died. He swelled up like a balloon in less than a few seconds.
