False floor carpentry

So I'm doing a false floor to cover the install around two amps - so really more of a wire cover - and I want to leave the heat sinks exposed. Never done this before.

This is gonna sound silly, it does to me, but how do you determine the exact points to cut the amp holes from?

I want a tight fit & a clean look. I can simply measure different points from the edge to the amp but the outside edge has curves & I know it won't come out well.

I can't flip the amps on it & mark them b/c the whole assembly will be in the car. Any ideas? Maybe construction paper first? There's got to be a simple answer I'm missing.

i put the piece(paneling) on top of everything and marked a spot where the amp and speaker were. then i cut a small hole. put it back on top of the amp, marked the amp with some masking tape so i could measure and get an idea how much farther i had to cut. i cut everything short and just kept trimming a little at a time.

Thanks, can't believe more ppl haven't wrestled with this.

I think what I'm going to do is cut the holes in the cover according to amp measurements in the approx location I want them first, then use that to determine the final amp positioning on the rack.

slick... you should cover the sub though so nothing smashes it
there is nothing over the sub because i basically built that enclosure for a show i was in.

make sure you cut the holes about an inch shorter then needed. then keep trimming them back
