Disregarding the obvious lack of understanding for the word “attempted” ( meaning not succeeded), it also ignores how the law works.

When you fail at a coup attempt, you have still made the attempt. Hence why well over 600 people (and growing) have been caught and are facing a shlt ton of legal trouble.
It isn’t because they stopped by the Capitol building for a “tour” as one not-very-bright member here posited.
It was because they attempted a coup by preventing Biden from being president. How? By keeping the electoral vote from happening.

When you try to rob a bank but fail, you have still broken the law ad will face a shlt-ton of legal trouble if you get caught.

"Attempted" means they tried and failed. I understand that (you clearly don't). They got into the building. They didn't bring any weapons. They didn't kill anyone. If they wanted to take over the building, they could have. They succeeded in everything they intended to do, then they left. They could have done whatever they wanted, and they did.
