External HD practical?

SWINE FLU!!!!
I've been downloading a lot of music lately(only 14 gigs which may not seem like a lot to some of you) but i was wondering if I should just purchase an external HD. two reasons...

1. although i'm not noticing any differences in speed, i feel that i might just be slowly getting used to it since i only download 5-6 albums a night. so if i take them all off at once, and put then on an external HD maybe i'd notice a difference since it'd be like night and day..?

2. mainly for backup. I've been unlucky enough to get a few virus' in the 10 years i've had my own computers, and only one time did i lose a lot of music, but i don't want that to happen again.

so basically my question is, with those reasons in mind is buying like a 200gb external HD practical? also are they easy? is it as simple as like drag and drop? and is it all accessable from the new HD?

and also if it is practical, could anyone point me in the right direction of a good one or one that they've only heard good things about?

I have a 200 gig external HD and I couldn't be happier with it.

I backed up all my music that is on my internal HD that was packed to the brim, and whenever I download new albums I'll save them to the external HD.

They are extremely easy to use. Plug one into a USB port on your computer. Your computer will recognize it as another HD and you'll be good to go. Just drag and drop whatever you want.

yea they come in handy alot, i got a 120 gb one for xmas and been using it to get files from other people and bring them to my comp really easily

well id say if u have a laptop its more then practical but for a desktop its a very good buy as well more storage never hurt plus it will free up ur main drive so windows isnt all crappy like it usually is!!

you can make an internal an external for about $30 and a few hours... just got a 250G external NEW off e-bay for $99

Definately worth it...luv bein able to take it anywhere! just be sure to partition it if you are going to use for backing up your main drive... keeps da muzik seperate from program files... specially if you D/L off bear share or other similiar sites.

I use one too and I love it. I only got 100 gigs though thinking that would be fine. Now its full and I wish I got a bigger one, so get the biggest one you can.
