External bass knobs

I see alot of amps that have a gain knob on a wire that you can put somewhere in your car. I want to know how this works though. If I plug this in does it over-ride the gain settings on the amp. or will it use the gain setting on the amp and then allow you to fine tune the gain within the settings on the amp?

the way mine worked is that is actually adjusts your gain. When i was setting my gains for my subs, i left the remote at the max setting so i can lower it and no that i can be at max on the remote gain control and not be going over what i set it too.

gain knobs > bass knobs

gain knobs pretty much allow you to send more/less signal to the amplifier

bass knob simply boosts a certain frequency, causing your bass to be semi-redundant, and no longer dynamic. @ 18+db of 40Hz, you really wont hear anything short of the 35-45 responce

Agreed.

But no knobs > knobs.

Heh. Redundancy FTL.

If I want my subs louder, I turn the volume up. If I want them lower, I turn it down.

But I have an SQ-ish set-up... Most people don't even realize I have subs... I'm THAT good. 8)

And I'm running passive. I don't have the equipment (yet) to run active. But it all blends together nicely.

And LOL@URSIG.

I can't imagine me unscrewing my subs and having to use a pry-bar to release the pressure behind the sub. Oh, man.

you are better off to not use the knob that comes with the amp. set the gains appropriately then use an aftermarket knob. peripheral makes a knob that goes inline on the rca's. that way you do not overdrive the input on the amp.(it depends on the amp. i think most amps the knob is just an external gain controll)
