Experienced Ebay'ers, I need help

Hi. i want to buy an amp off ebay from a person wt 80% feedback who apparently got her only negative because according to her auction, she was on vacation which delayed the delivery. The person only accepts money order because supposedly , accoriding to her auction, her paypal withdrawl amount was exceeded this month. Will a bank money order be good enough? What precautions should i take? Will ebay back me up and reimburse me if i get nothing as long as i have proof of puchase and money order?

if you pay by usps money order then if they scam you, then it is now a federal offense. which = no good for them. i dunno me personally, i wouldn't buy it. too risky for me. although i did buy my zapco amp off some guy who had only 1 feedback with that feedback being positive. but he was local and i picked it up.

im personally not a fan of sending a MONEY order... my reasons. she can cash it out with paypal. with a check. i think? so she has sold only 5 things?

All that means is that she is not a Business o a Premier PayPal user and there are limits placed on the amount of money that can move thorugh her account (at her request - transferring funds to her actual bank account or making payments to others) but it will not keep her from accepting payments.

My personal feelings on eBay is do not buy from anyone with a lower than 98.5% positive feedback percentage and for me to buy from someone with less than 99% it has to be something pretty unique that I cannot get elsewhere.

Thus far *knock on wood* I haven't been burned on eBay once. 80%, I think, would make me run far and run fast.

hmm thanks....alll good things i need to think about....i do see where the person is coming from in a sense that i would ask for a money order if i needed the money asap and my withdrawl limit was exceeded in paypal, but i dont have a lmit unlike this person..does ebay stand behind me if i do get scammed?

There are certain criteria that have to be met to be covered under the Buyer Protection Policy.

You haveto pay via an accepted method (those methods being whatever is specified in the item listing) within whatever timeframe is stated in the auction.

If you do not pay via an online fund transfer your mailed payment must have Delivery Confirmation of some sort to be able to prove that your payment reached its destination.

If the payment isn't via PayPal then eBay has no recourse as far as trying to help you get your money back in case of a scam - all they can do is issue a strike against the seller for Non-Performing Seller (three of these and their account will get suspended - big deal, right?)

yea i almost got scammed alomost 400 bucks for a stereo and ebay didnt do shit. and neither did paypal.....but i am tlkin to this guy wt the amp and he seems straight, but im not nieve so i know he could be a bastard....if the price is right im gonna go for it, and ill let you guys know whats going on

How to protect yourself

1.) Use paypal. Its the best thing other than picking it up locally and paying cash. That way, you can get that persons info from PP. Address, phone, email etc.

2.) Look at what they are selling, make sure its all consistent. Someone was selling a 97Supra Turbo but had 100's of feeback for Grandmother Pendants. Hoewver, I have sold very random things, so just be aware.

3.) Follow through with feedback, look at the feeback and look at the peron who let its feedback and so one until your satified that the transactions were random and not pre-staged.

4.) If some is mystriously outbidding you towards the last minute. Check the bidders location if possible. Check their feedback for clues to their location. I would be suspicuos if the 2 were even in the same state. I busted some people doing this and he sold me the item for my orignal bid.

5.) Bid at the last 30 seconds. This gives little time for someone to up the bid on you in favor of the seller.

I too have lost money, or bought something that wasnt what I thought it was. Just pay attention to detail.

80% positive? wouldn't do it man, nothin below like 96-100% is my #1 rule for ebay

Definately don't do it... I've bought from people with 97-97.5% positive feedback and got my items but broke like a week later, let alone 80%.... 80% is horrible...
