Existing comps

I am currently running these 6.5's in the front doors, and I think these 4's in the back doors. They're only about 3 months old, so I'd hate to replace them if I don't need to, but I wonder if they'd stand up to having some power run through them. They're currently running just off my headunit, a Pioneer DEH - 7600MP.

If I am able to juice them up a little, will they sound ok?

The front ones have an RMS of 50 watts, so go ahead and put a small 2 channel on them.

The 4"s in back only show an rms of 20, so I probably wouldnt bother. Your deck probably puts out enough for them to perform at their peak level.

Are there 4's available with higher power ratings? Or would I have to resort to cutting out the inner door panel, or something, to fit a larger series? I'm looking to build a new system for SQL; I want the L, but more emphasis on SQ.

If I do replace them, what kind of power rating should I be looking for to get some good, clean, moderately loud SQ? I'm currently planning on 2 10s in the hatch, and want to make sure the comps don't get drowned out.

Or let me rephrase that, actually: I'm looking to get the PG Xenon 100.4 to run my comps, so if I'm running 100W / channel, what are my options?

I was looking at These for the front doors, and These for the rear doors, which would handle 100w each, but that's going to come out around $400 for the comps. If possible, I'd like to find something comparable, but cheaper. The best bang for the buck, I guess.

I cannot speak as an expert, but I think most people would say only the front stage is important. I guess it depends on your taste, but most SQ audiophiles would say lose the rear stage all together as it just adds cancellation and imaging issues.
the HU powering the rears is Definitely ok, plus all you have to do is fade them off and on from the HU depending on your passengers in back.

I received this response in another thread, so I was wondering:

If I had 2 10s in the back, would my existing 6.5s up front with 50W each be enough to compliment the subs for decent SQ, or should I upgrade them to be able to put some more power to them?

And if I'm not powering the rear door speakers, do I need to sound deaden them? Or should I still do that, just to keep noise out?

You should still deaden the back doors even if the rear drivers are not powered. Only difference is that the extent of deadening is less. One coat on the inner door is good. Doors with powered speakers usually require a couple of coats, as well as deadening on the outer shell.

By the way, how do you find your HU? I have the same one and I've been very happy with until late...looks like my sub pre-outs are screwed!!

So far I like it, but it's just running straight to the 6.5s in the front doors, 4s in the rear doors (links posted above, all Pioneer). I'm just now planning out a system, so I haven't had a chance to use the pre-outs yet.

I like the options, though; seem like there is a lot of tweaking that can be done just from the head unit, once everything else is in order.
