Equalizers?

I have a double din AVH-P4200DVD - Pioneer In-Dash 7" Touchscreen DVD Multimedia AV Receiver headunit, and I have a slot underneath it that I'd like to fill something with. I was looking at this 1/2 din equalizer by clarion:

Is this okay to use with my headunit which already has a set of preouts, etc.? I'd like to have the physical controls instead of having to navigate through menus. ALso would this be bad for an amp? I'm not sure how this works, because I know bass knobs can push amps beyond what they should be doing and cause problems -- would that apply to this?

ive heard good stuff about the clarion. eq/liner driver out and its inexpensive. good bet there.
