i am kinda new to stereo system and i was wondering whats the whole point in one of these and is there a need if i only have 2 12's and all new door speakers with a amp running them and do u have to have a equalizer per amp or only one

if there is a thread that explains this plz send link

thanks

I'm a noob myself but I believe that most equalizers take the output from the preouts from the HU, process or adjust sound, and then have their own preouts. So that would mean you would hook up all amps AFTER an equalizer.

If you're asking what it does, you definately don't "need" it. You should be more concerned with using crossovers whether it be on the actual amps or headunit. Make sure your subs are only receiving the correct frequencies as well as your regular coaxial speakers.

if you want the best sound possible for your vehicle, sound processors("EQUALIZERS) are essential. if i was you i would look into a 15 band audio control. you'll be totally blown away with the sound difference. plus, you'll get a chance to learn how to better understand your system

if you have good speakers you wont need that at all.

and to the op...i can't really understand what your saying.

Not true.

Speakers are not the primary reason equalization is needed in a vehicle.

It's the environment that is the major contributor here. Your speakers might play perfectly flat (highly unlikely, but let's use the hypothetical "best case"). Place those perfectly flat frequency response speakers in the horrid acoustic environment we call an automobile and an equalizer WILL be necessary to achieve a desired response.

Is an equalizer absolutely necessary to every system ? No. And honestly I'd venture to say that if you are new to audio and/or are running a fairly basic system it would generally be a waste of time and money. Two main reasons are 1) equalizers aren't a magic fix-all, you have to have some knowledge and a decent ear in order to use an equalizer to your advantage and obtain the highest possible performance from the upgrade, and 2) most basic systems could use improvements in other areas that would enhance the overall system more than equalizer would.

Might you hear a difference in a basic system with the addition of an equalizer ? Sure. But I still say there is money and time better spent in other areas.

An equalizer is more like "icing on the cake" to a well installed and already well tuned system than a necessity to every system. Get everything else right first, then look to equalize the response where necessary.
