equalizers.. processors...

well ive seen some talk on her, as well as some builds on here about people having equalizers.. and processors and stuff, im just wondering.. whats the difference and what do they do? ive heard that they help make a system sound terriffic, but what exactly do they do thats so special? should i look into one for what i have?

Equalizers boost or cut specific frequencies or a range of frequencies. Good article with pictures:

A "processor" is a catch-all term for something that might have EQ capability, but also electronic crossovers, time alignment, computer control, etc.
