Equalizer Question

My amp/subs are connected to my headunits subwoofer output. When I adjust my equalizer (lo,mid,hi) settings, the bass or lo affects the subs. Should it do this?

I always thought if the amp was pugged into the sub output on the headunit the equalizer would not affect the subs. If this is what its suppose to happen, is there a way to make the equalizer not affect it?

Headunit Pioneer DEH-P4900ib

The equalizer in your deck is meant to equalize what you hear, so if you increase a portion of the music that is played through the subwoofer (like the "low" bandwidth) then yes it's going to affect the sub. Why is it a problem? If you don't want to increase the subwoofer volume then don't touch the "low" setting...

Because I would like to get some decent mid range bass through my alpines in the doors without turning up the sub

I say this because I do not know if this is correct method, but my friend said to always tune a sub with the equalizers lo on 0 or neutral. So in turn after tuning, if I raise the low, I also raise the sub which I do not want to do.

Found a thread http://www.caraudio.com/forum/amplifiers/444032-problem-adjusting-output-my-sub.html

He has the opposite problem from me.

Your h/u has a 3 band parametric EQ, you should be able to adjust it so it only affects the midbass region.

What are your crossover settings for both the sub and mids?

I am a semi-noob so can you dumbify: What are your crossover settings for both the sub and mids?
Mine are completely irrelevant to yours or anyone elses. The whole point of an EQ is to fine tune the system to your vehicle, your stereo components, and your personal taste.
