Epicenter...is it worth it?

You do realize the Epicenter has been around longer than portable MP3 players. The problem is most pre-90s rock and metal, wasn't mixed for a heavy bottom end. The heavy bass just isn't there on the old CDs, and that is what the epicenter was designed to fix. It doesn't matter what encoder or bitrates you use to compress a file, if the bass wasn't there to begin with, it won't be in the final product either.
Im fully aware of what its supposed to do. Still doesnt change the fact that introducing bass into a song where it wasnt present to begin with is adding distortion to a song which in turn leads to heat and failed speakers.

You would have to get something like the PG Bass cube, the epic does not add bass, it enhances the bass that was taking out during the final recording. I loved mine, before someone stole it, along with my RF power 800a2, punch 600a4 and fuse block. this was back in 99. So i don't know how it would sound on todays music.

Doesnt matter if its adding or enhancing. Its still adding distortion.

Not necessarily, the Epicenter is a subharmonic synthesizer capable of generating clean tones when it is used properly. The addition of distortion is no different than any other piece of audio gear, if you use a volume control, equalizer, bass boost, or gain incorrectly they can all add distortion and damage equipment. The user is the problem not the gear.

I just installed the Epicenter in my truck on Saturday and after 20 years of car audio, I wonder how I got along so long without it. 90% of the music that I listen to is oldies. I like R&B oldies, reggae and old rock hits. The epicenter is excellent for that kind of music. For me though I like the epicenter but not to extremes. With the bass set moderately and with restraint, the epicenter is perfect. For the newer music I don't use it at all. I have the epicenter in combination with my Audiocontrol 3.2 which in my mind is a perfect combination.
At first the Epicenter didn't blend in with my system. But once I turned down the gains on my Arc Audio KS 1200.1 and turned off the little bass boost that I used then the epicenter came alive in my system. Everything blends in better. Again the epicenter in moderation works perfectly for me.
Thanks for this. This is the kind of info I was looking for...

hate to hijack.... but im in need of a epicenter and eq and noticed soundstream has a bx-4eq... would i be better off getting this insted of getting them individualy

give me a buzz bggd gmc i can help you with those if you want.and i also listen to the old rock and 80s hair bands ,i have a arc peq which does not have a sub out , but my bass amp is strong enough that i just turn up the bass knob and works like a champ

Its not the same thing. You cant properly calculate where bass should be in a song based off of other calculations from the same song. Thats why they dont work. It adds distortion to make it sound like bass. Thats the same technology in a OEM radio that makes the factory speakers sound decent. They introduce a certain level of distortion to get that "bass" feel without actually any bass lines.

Ummm... no.
Umm GTFO.
