Entering the world of separates

I need some basic advice on mainly preamps and amps and whatever else I need to know to get my system started. Rignt now I have a Yamaha reciever with two Polk RT800i speakers and a diy subwoofer (Ascendant Audio Atlas). Im really looking for a budget preamp and amplifier as this will be my first system. I was looking mainly in to Adcom and also found some Acurus stuff on ebay. I would like to keep it one brand for looks but if I have to get different brands its ok. I listen to music at a pretty moderate to loud volume and movies always loud. I would really like a preamp that can do 5.1 as I am planning a polk CS400i for the center and two more polk surrounds that I havent decided on yet. How much power will I need for my Polks? Their site says the RT800i can take from 20-250 watts of recommended amplifier power. Thank you for any help you can provided, I will be checking this post frequently.

If your truly going into seperates and want 5.1, your going to have to spend ALOT of money.

Ok, tell me how much then, Im sure I can compromise. Sell my Yamaha first and not purchase the center speaker, maybe wait another month.
