Slamming hoes n trunks...
I'm running 7000 watts in my jeep. I got a 270a Mechman Ho alt / 75ah car audio batt in the from and two 75 ah batts in the back with 4 runs off 0 gauge knu cca ( 2 pos and 2 neg ) I'm fusing the amps ( 2 sundown 3000ds ) I'm wondering if there is is a need to fuse after the the batts up front because from what I know the wires will never see 500 amps of current ( its a daily driver ). But I might be wrong so that's where you guys who know better chime in. I'm thinking I don't need to fuse the the wires near the front but I could be wrong

are you talking about from front to rear?

If so, yes..

Fuse front pos and rear pos.. that protects both batteries should something happen to the power cable or the batteries

a knu fuse holder is $25 shipped.. worth it imo to be safe..

Yea I know on the safe side it's good but I'm not seeing where the back could pull >500+ amps of power from if my alt is 270 and my batt is 75 ah but I have a basic understanding of electronics

your alt charges the batteries either way.. front or back.. same amount of current regardless if you have more than one battery.

seems like you're looking for an excuse not to fuse it. I totally would if I were you.. you have nicer equipment than I do and mine is fused both ways.

It's not that I'm looking for reason not to fuse. I've bought the fuses and fuse holders already. I just wanted an technical explanation as to why I need to fuse. I'm just trying to step my knowledge game up bro

Ur running that much power u should have used ofc
The answer to this question my will determine whether I buy ofc or whether it's needed.

I'm trying to understand the exact reason why I need what I need. So that I know on the future or if I need to help other bros out. Because from my standpoint I can't why

There is no technical explanation.. its just a safety precaution. Hell you could run your entire system without fuses anywhere if you really wanted to

Just cause you arent pulling 500 amps thru that wire doesnt mean it doesnt need a fuse..you're charging batteries with the cable.. fuse it

its mainly used incase of a wire getting cut and shorting, it keeps the batts from deadshorting and burning up the wire, which could burn the car down.
yup.

or exploding batteries.. doesnt sound fun

There's always a technical explanation bro. I don't have 500 amps of readily available power up front so why would I need to protect myself against that? I was looking for education, as far as, what goes behind this thinking of what you stated

Because 270 amps is still enough to do alot of damage... I dont get why you think only 500 amps needs to be fused? tiny little 1 amp things get fused all the time

I'm not saying that it does or doesn't. I'm asking why? There's math behind everything in electronics. I'm just trying to figure out why exactly do I need this

The technical reason for fusing is so your wire doesn't short out and burn your entire vehicle up. What more do you need to understand than that? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I'm asking for enlighten for why this is so? You see what I'm saying? My alt is never going to produce more than 500 amps of current so this led me to this way of thinking
