i don't know the name of it but at autozone they got this crap on display that works pretty good i used it to clean my valve covers and it worked like a charm... its that orange stuff thats in a spray bottle i highly recommend it

Regular Simple Green at full strength works really well at cleaning dirty engines, grease, oil, etc.

When detailing an engine, after covering the obvious components; I spray the Simple Green on pretty heavy, wait for a good 5 minutes, and rinse with a garden hose with a "Firehose" nozzle.

Dirt just sheets off.

Helps to have the engine a little warm at the time to completely remove all the junk.

Only down side is that Simple Green is not completely Aluminum Friendly and will dis-color it.

If you have a Car Quest Store in your area, their house brand Purple Cleaner also works quite well.

I just use a combo of tire cleaner and engine cleaner at the carwashes..

Castrol super clean degreaser. Works great. Just make sure you rinse it off well.

use "gunk" engine degreaser...works great!!!

x2 for the simple green. squirt 2 bottles on your engine and let it sit for a minute, works like a champ.

hm yea i have used simple green for a long time, it is the classic degreaser after all. i hear mixed opinions about directly spraying your engine. i've seen neighbors do it, but i still won't. i honestly can't give you an exact reason why but i do know a lot of people that would NEVER do it, only by hand. honestly, it doesnt seem like a good idea spraying all those components with water, i mean you're getting all sorts of other things wet too..like the alternator lol

do while the engines is cold, wrap the alternator and coilpac/ distributor with a plastic bag, check to make sure that spark plug boots are tight and in place and you are all set. Start the car directly after finishing the wrinse. Wrinse fast also.

green stuff is the best. Its expensive but also highly concentrated.
