engine dampening?

ok i love my pos car.. but the one thing about it - it is very loud...

this spring i plan on ripping out the whole interior and deadening everything... but i was just curious how safe it is to use something to deaden the engine bay side of the firewall/hood... i saw motor mat made by second skin.. but i dont want this to fall off or anything and just cause massive problems lol... or if there is anything else you guys can suggest?

To properly treat the engine noise, you will have to do the hood of the car.

This is one of the biggest places people skip, and can provide more results than treating the interior firewall in some cases.

If you are going to use Second Skin sound deadening products, My suggestion is a layer or 2 of Damplifier or Damplifier Pro on the hoods sheet metal skin. Then a layer of Motor Mat on top of that.

You can also go with a layer of Spectrum on top of the bracing before applying the Motor Mat.

We are coming out with a new product soon, called Motor Mat Pro. If you are going to go a hood liner, it should be this one.

You'll spend as much on treating the noise with deadener as you'd spend on getting a quieter exhaust system.

It is flexible, but you will only want to use it on the flat areas of the hood.

We suggest putting in with in the recesses of the hood bracing.

A vibration damper like Damplifier Pro or Spectrum should always be used first though.
