Even worse here in PA. If there is sunglare people don't know how to squint or put on sunglasses, they slow down to 45 mph and still rear end eachother. Some woman managed to hit my big bright blue loud truck in her Escort a few years ago because the sun was in her eyes and she evidently didn't see me there sitting still in traffic on a 4 lane major highway.
We could just have a minor morning drizzle and I hear of accidents and traffic delays on every major road on the radio while on my way to work. An inch of snow, and 4 inches of salt go down on every major road. Useless local news stations that normally have nothing exciting to report start throwing out terms like 'storm watch' and 'winter weather alert' for half a day of light snow showers. Evidently nobody here knows how to drive without having an accident except for picture perfect, dry conditions with no sun glare and not even any rainfall.
More than 3 inches of snow, people loose their ####in minds. Snow shovels fly off the shelves in every major hardware store. Rock salt disappears from Home Depot and Lowes. Eggs and milk fly off the shelves of every local convenience store and supermarket, even though most of the people buyin the shit never drink milk or feel any particularly urgent desire for eggs unless there is snow in the forecast. Even then jackasses still take their front drive minivans out into major blizzards with over a foot on the ground even after everyone is specifically told to stay off the road and give the plows room to work, and when they get interviewed on the news with their crumpled vehicles sitting in dithes in the background they say they HAD to go out because something stupid like they realized there was no apple juice in thet house. (first time they worried about it EVER.)
And so at the end of the day after all the panic the roads are plowed and salted and drivable within a day and everybody has a fridge full of spoiled milk and rotten eggs and a week's worth of other crap they'll never use to contend with because they ran out and bought stuff like thew were expecting to be trapped in their homes for 6 months straight. Then after it's over everybody runs out and buys 1000 dollar heavy duty snow throwers so they're ready for next time and it doesn't snow heavily again for another 3 years.
