Edge lighting Plexiglass????

Have any of you guys used LEDs to light a plexiglass panel to light up an engraved piece if Plexiglass? If so how many did you use? Is SuperBright the best place to buy them? Thanks for any info or tips.

I've had pretty good results with this method for computer cases, no reason it shouldn't work for other applications..

As long as the plexi is thick enough, drill a hole in the edge just the right size and deep enough for the led to sit flush (not counting the leads of course). Hot glue it in place.

Try to find wide angle LED's, or scuff them up with fine sandpaper a bit to diffuse the light better.

So I need to put the LEDs in the edge of the glass to light up the engraved logo correct? How large are most LEDs? Any idea what the thinnest piece of plexiglass I could use. Thanks for the tips.

1/4 Plexi I'd use the smaller 3mm (t1) led's, if you went with 3/8 plexi you could probably use the bigger 5mm (t 1 3/4) led's.

Check with lowes, sometimes they have scrap pieces you can pickup on the cheap to practice on.

When I first saw your post, this came to mind but I couldn't find it at the momemnt.. Might give ya some insight to your possibilities! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thanks for the link Scoob.

That is just what I was looking to do and the questions I had were answered in the thread. Awesome.

you could take a look at oznium.com they have led strips which would work well they also have million color ones so you can rotate the colors if you choose

Theses are not audio but you can surely wire them to your amp then have a toggle switch here are some sites..Look at my computer i did all the lighting..

Thanks for the links guys.

I think I have a plan now. Just need to order some LEDs and resistors. The only thing I am unsure of is how many LEDs I will need. I guess some trial and error will work that out.

Again, Thanks for the info guys.
