eDead v1²

have you tried it out? or just guessing? cuz im trying to go cheap sound deadening and was thinking about that home depot stuff
Just the idea of that stuff is wrong from a sound deadener perspective. Sound deadener is supposed to add mass to a resonant surface to kill vibration and sound waves. In what way does "foam" add mass?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

I've used damplifier throughout my entire car and I can honestly say that I will continue to use nothing else. Go with damplifier you WONT be disappointed.

Foam is more or less used in areas you cannot get to with normal deadener, and is also used to seal air passages.

I'm thinking of Grabbin 1.5 rolls off of Rick. The guy is great, and extremely helpful. He's actually very passionate about car audio and is willing to give you help in any way he can about his products.

I'll be spending any deadening money at raamaudio.com.

Closed cell foam might help some but that stuff he posted looked like open cell foam

no. Sound deadener isnt a foam. Well not what most ppl think of when they think odf deadener... Sound deadener is like a thick black tar-like substance usually with a foil backing that has an adhesive layer (usually pretty good at that..). Foam, the closed cell variety, is used as a barrier to higher frequencies such as wind noise and also when placed behind speakers, can help absorb the midranges' backwave, improving response in your door speakers and reducing distortion.

These are basics of sound deadeners.

What he said. The point basically is to absorb high frequencies sound coming from BEHIND the speaker. Roadnoise, rattles, etc add to this and screw up the speakers clarity. The dense deadener reduces, and with enough eliminates, this noise and sound cancellation. Thus you can't hear the roadnoise, and talking on the cell phone in rush hour traffic while yelling at your kids in the backseat of your Econobox is much easier because you are in the silence of your deadened vehicle //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

haha, yeah that makes more sence, see the thing is this deadener, i looked for, and they were out, but i may try to go back... cuz basically it has a peel off layer for adhesive, and a foil type layer on the other side as well, it has like a black thick stuff, but i still need to see it to see exactally what it is, but it is used for like duckting pipes or something like that

can anyone inform me on how exactally this is differnt from real deadener>? they both are a thick foam, and foil on one side, sticky on the other, (correct me if im wrong) but i dont really understand. and what above did he mean by closed cell foam and open cell foam? i understand how deadener must bring density, so help me out.

Well because obviously you cant read, Ill quote myself.

Normal deadener isnt a foam at all.

Open cell foam is like the padding you put on a matress, or like in the cushion of your car. Closed cell foam is a type of foam that has individual cells that dont compress like open cell foam.

Peel & Seal is a brand name made by MFM - asphalt based and meant for roof repair. Grace Construction has some similar products as does Protecto Wrap. No asphalt product will ever make a good vibration damper. No consturction product will ever give you any sort of warranty for in car use.

The duct wrap might be a candidate for replacing products like Ensolite or Neoprene, but it is not an effective vibration damper. No where near enough mass to do much.

The asphalt eDead on SDS is their old product and absolute junk. The new stuff has a higher heat resistance but its capabilities are severely compromised by their decision to save a few pennies by using Mylar instead of aluminum foil for the constraining layer. I have been testing it for the new version of SDS and just don't get that. They've also decided not to publish the mass/area specs so good luck comparing it to the competition.

To save money, use less of a high quality product. I've been studying this stuff for some time. While there are good values out there, there aren't any ultra-cheap solutions that work as well as the better products sold specifically for sound deadening. Quality costs, but not as much as wasting your money on ineffective solutions, some of which may damage your vehicle.
