I guess I'm confused on the laughing. I know that this forum doesn't have the highest regards for ED anymore, but is the price not good, or is it just a ED's not a boner anymore so they are no longer cool?

Could make a good project for the money, in my opinion.

As with most things eD, this driver is not without controversy (as Ben alluded to in a couple of threads). I will just leave it at that...
$55 is a very good price when you figure that an almost identical TB driver will sell for ~$78 from Parts Express... http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=264-862 -- and eD does seem to offer better warranty, etc.

I have my suspicions that the opposite is actually happening, but there is no hard evidence out there. All we have is Ben's claims.

Now, we do have a quote from someone who knows TB and the way they operate that would suggest that TB would not have copied eD's design... but nothing concrete...

Well, I guess I can shed some light... See, I've been to TB a bit, and I've worked with Norman and the gang for 5 years now... The slim-line speakers have been in the works for quite a while, and all the tooling was done by TB. In fact, I've worked with the exact ORIGINAL molds, and just a month ago was talking with Norman about moving it from the injection to the pressed line TB just set up...
TB is EXTREMELY good about maintaining confidentiality of products, parts, etc. I've trusted them for a LONG time to keep a lot of my IP quiet, proprietary, and protected. They're one of the few chinese companies that are that good. If TB is using those parts, it's because they own them.

But I'll ask Norman again in 3 weeks when I'm back there again...

Sounds like eD and TangBand both purchased the same drivers from a builder. eD knows Partsexpress will move more tangbands then eD can sell their subs- so they drop the price and claim TangBand is shady.

I like those ISIX forums though- a lot of eD *** kissing there. lol

Personally though- if the subs will work for you, they are similar (if not the exact same) as the TangBands, yet cheaper. But beware . lol

Is that based on their shady practices or their customer service/warranty etc?

I personally have no problem with a company selling a same or similar product for less- but if their customer service and guarantees are crap, no price cut is generally worth it.
