I say GO ECLIPSE!!!!! but then again people might think im stupid because im seriously considering giving up my Ti pro for 2 15" l7's (06 model)

You know what they say man, "there is no replacement for displacement". The L7's would probably be more musical but, hey there aren't many people on the globe with the TiPro and L7's are like a**holes.....everyone has one:)

Seriously, I know you have been having trouble with building a box for that thing that works for everything. This is definitely a purpose built sub that can make you want to pull your hair out. I think what I would do is build a box that has multiple ports that can be plugged for a specific sound you are after.

I have been actually been playing around with a box design for a GroundZero Plutonium 15, which looks to have nearly identical T/S specs as the Pro except it has an aluminum cone to change it's resonance and moving mass. GroundZero actually recommends a 2.8ft^3 net box tuned to 40Hz for that sub. I think the key is keeping the box size down due to the fact that this sub has about half of the Qts as the regular Ti due to the motor design.

Now here is my box idea. And give my some time, later today I'll post some of the simulated boxes I have run.

I have been looking at a 3.75ft^3 net box with 6 4" round ports that are each 20 3/8" long. That would tune that box to about 47Hz for SPL. From there you could plug ports to keep tuning the box lower and lower. Basically if you plugged 2 of the ports the box would end up being 4.15 cubes tuned to 36Hz. If you plugged 3 ports it would be 4.4 cubes tuned to 31Hz.

That's a good idea.

ok, i was thinking of getting a 12 or 15 L7 and changed my mind, now im thinking of getting the eclipse SW8152. i can get it brand new at a local stereo shop for 250, so should i do it or could i find something better?
By the way, the 8152 is a version of the either the TC7 or TC9 woofer made by TC Sounds, I can never remember which. IF it is the TC9, it also is very similar to the Sound Splinter Rl-P's. This is a great woofer and I would personally much rather have the Eclipse Aluminum over the L7.

Civic,

Hang on to your TiPro and try this out.........

This is basically only 1 box simulated with 4 different port configurations.

The Red trace is the box in stock form. A 3ft^3 net box with 6 4" x 23" ports, it is tuned at 50Hz and would make a great SPL box.

The Blue trace shows what would happen if you closed one port. It would become a 3.2ft^3 box tuned to 44Hz. Still more of an SPL box but one that would be serviceable for music.

The Grey trace shows what happens by covering two ports. The box is now a 3.4ft^3 box tuned to 38Hz. Now the box is much more musical but you are losing some SPL potential. I think this would be the best overall box.

Finally the Green trace shows the box with only three of the original six ports in use. It became a 3.6ft^3 box tuned to 33Hz. You can see the effect of trying to place this sub in an enclosure that is tuned to low and is to big.

This box would be fairly easy to build but, you would have to mount the sub inverted to allow for the internal space taken up from the six ports. I believe you can still find port plug inserts at places like PartsExpress or Select Products. But it would be a pretty flexible box solution.

I posted this on another thread to help someone else that has the same sub as you and is in the same situation as you. Let me know if I can help you out.

You could run it either way. It will sound very good in a 1.5-2.0ft^3 net sealed box, and handle a good amount of power. If you want tight articulate bass out of a small box and have plenty of power (>400Wrms), go sealed.

If you crave a little extra slam and need a little more efficiency, at the expense of space and accuracy of course, go ported. It will definitely come alive in a ported box. Try about 2.0-2.5ft^3 net tuned anywhere from 30-35Hz. Use two 4" aeroports or build a slot port with a good 25in^2 of port area or more.

jimmy, i like your idea about plugging the holes, and by reading your last reply, do you think i could make a box that is 17x17x17 and use 2 aeroports and plug them when i want to change the bass? also im guessing that the aeroports are 4inches diameter, but how long do they need to be?

You could give it a try if you wanted to. It is very difficult to plug aeroports though, the mouth is just a wierd size.

If you built a box that measured 18"x21.5"x17" on the outside (assuming 3/4" MDF) and used two standard 4" ports about 19 3/8" long it would be 2.5ft^3 net tuned to 35Hz with both ports in use.

If you closed one port, the box would become around 2.65ft^3 net tuned to 24Hz. You will probably run into some port noise at higher levels in this configuration due to the decrease in port area, but it should sound good at low levels.
