Eclipse Sub ??

I know that TC Sound used to or still makes the subs for Eclipse, atleast they did the SW8200's, but both of my SW8200's came in boxes that say Made in China, and both were in outer boxes that had this marking on it:

FTCA

LosAngeles

P/N:SW8200

TC4000 (rubbed off)

C/NO:.

MADE IN CHINA

I know that TC is made in the USA but how is it that they make this sub and it is labled MADE IN CHINA?

Inquiring minds would like to know!

iirc the eclipse just uses a tc sounds motor so the sub and the soft parts could come from anywhere
makes sense.

I was on the TC forums once, a while back, and if remember correctly, there was someone asking questions about the "new" sw8200 from Eclipse and someone from TC replied that "although they protect their OEM customers privacy, the 8200 was basically a TC4000 with a different basket and cover over the motor." I guess from that i assumed that TC actually made the sub.

When i asked my local Eclipse dealer, and showed him the box, he was as surprised as i was to see made in china, even he thought that it was made here in the US by TC.

All parts are our design and some of them still come from the states.

We contracted with overseas venders and flew back and fourth to oversea the production of the 8000's and 8200's. All the drivers were then shipped back to us and we QC'ed each one. We even flew the glue to China to make sure they would use the right stuff and we taught them how to build the drivers the way we do.

Every 8000 or 8200 has been examined by us in San Diego.

Ultimately if you want a 30+ pound driver with the latest features for 400 dollars retail, you have to optimize the costs.

Amen! thank You for clearing that up, i was confused, the only reason i bought that sub was that it came from TC and was affordable.

Even had my Eclipse dealer thinking that Eclipse had made a bone move by not having TC do the sub! I will be sure to update him next time i see him, sure he will be pleased to hear this!

Now I can not wait to hear these baby's, had an amp problem before i got them and had to send the amps back to be fixed. Should be up and running in a week or so!!!

What size enclosure are you putting them in? Mine is in 1 cube and its response curve has a huge peak between 50 and 60hz, just an FYI. I'm going to be putting it in 3 cubes sealed and let the Linear motor do its stuff:up2somet:

it's a mono chamber sealed enclosure, i believe it is 1.9 c.f. the guy that built it, has done the same box in another blazer with these speakers and it sounded great! I am going to be running better and more power though. 2 Zed miniliths strapped.

here is a pic:

Dear god that is an ugly install. Not to mention one begging to get stolen.
Thank you! now i know i am doing it right! as for theft, the car is under 24 hour video survalience at my house, it is garaged and insured well, so if someone wants it bad enough, come get it! they will be in jail within 24 hours and i will have an insurance check in about the same time, so i am not worried!

I assume that is a work in progress and that each sub is in 1.9 cubes?? I had this sub 1.4 cubes and it sounded pretty good but definitely wanted bigger. I would have recommended more than 600 watts a piece though. I'm sure you will be happy with the final product...I loved mine.

If you are firmiliar with Zed at all, then you would know that once strapped, the subs will get way more than 600 W each. And I have already heard this set up in the exact same box and with less power than i am giving it and it is fine! Eclipse's tech engineers actually looked at the specs for the box before it was built and the amp configuration and replied. "the enclosure and power is well within the recommended requirements for these subs to perform at their optimum level."

I think I will take not only the word of Eclipse but also car audio guru Steven Mantz who also advised me that it is more than adequet, in addition to a very well known speaker and amp designer here locally in the New York area who happens to not only be a dealer for Eclipse but is also well versed in the quality and output of Zed peoducts. 2 industry leaders and the company tech engineers all can not be wrong.

I didn't mean anything offensive by what I said and I actually think your setup will look real nice once everything is cleaned up.

I was speaking from my own experience. I had about 680 watts going to mine and I thought it could take more. Also, I looked at these amps for the first time after seeing them in your vehicle and was only basing what I said off what is on their website.

Again, I wasn't bashing your setup at all and it looks like it will shape up real nice.
