eclipse cd8455 or alpine cda-9835

So?
The 9835 can as well...and if you add the H701 outboard processor, you're looking at a combination that has the flexibility of a P9 combo for half the price.
so...well u can add a h701 to ANY HU you'd like that has at least 1 set of preouts...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif Its not like a 9835 can control it.

Eclipse Pro's

*24BIT dac , with dual dsp dedicated chips

*quality 8v/55ohm preoyts

* 5band PEQ for front chs, 5 band PEQ for Rear channels independently(10 total)

*6/12/18/24db slope on xovers

*Active Bandpass on rear chs (OVERLAPABLE)

* You can adjust volume REAL TIME while under DSP menus..

Alpine ONLY Pro over the Eclipse-

* Xover and PEQ can go below Eclipse's cap of 63hz

But when you only have 5 bands total of EQ available, to use of of them to tame 50hz is a waste, leaving you with 4 bands left for the rest of the audible spectrum that needs ALOT more tuning...

that's what i was thinkin. that's why i need to re-buy one now that i'm gonna go active.

The one thing I do like about the Alpine xover section is that you can attenuate each pair of preouts so if you wanted to, you can make your front stage to be a little more quieter than your sub.

yeah...With the eclipse you can attenuate each driver(channel) as well under the T/A menu-

^ haha, i just figured that out over the weekend. I was getting mad that i couldn't turn off my sub but as i was reading the manual on the T/A section, it says "adjust the level of each speaker." i was like finally but i found it to be a pain in the *** that you have to push the down button 30 times just to turn off the sub or whatever speaker you want to turn off.

I agree, it did seem to be a pain at first. However, after a few months I found the TA and decible options to give extreme flexibility. One problem I always had with a setup was gains between various types of music. My gains were set at volume 70. With rock and classical I perfer to listen to the music around 60. At these levels the front stage would overpower my subwoofer. When listening to rap, I prefer to have the volume around 40-45. At this level the full potential of the sub could not be used. Prior to the 8455 I had to compremise and set the gains at a midway point between the two. After that, the sub control and treble could match it close. With the 8455 I can set the front stage gains at volume 70 and the sub gain at 55. After setting up the crossover and eq, I then save a custom profile with the sub decible at -15 for rock. Another custom profile is then saved with the sub decible at 0 for rap. The deck can hold four or five custom profiles, but with the addition of the memory stick I can have custom presets for controlling my gains as well as the crossover and peq. I have had this deck since July (and owned the 8454 previously) but I still find features that make it impossible to ever go back to a ordinary HU.

hehe...i'm sorry if your main concern is looks, now thats 'girly'//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

And nothing more girly as far as function as a Kenwood....it does all a girl needs and nothing more. As a girl would never need active functions:p

Couple things I like about the Eclipse:

1. 5 bands of parametric EQ per front and mid.

2. Good active xovers

3. Hi-volt preouts

Things I really don't like about Eclipse decks:

1. Can't EQ the sub in pro mode. I know 3.5max will say that subs play a limited frequency range and don't need it, but I completely and totally disagree with that statement. I haven't owned a vehicle yet that didn't need EQ'ing, especially in the 50-80 Hz range. Almost every vehicle will boost those frequencies.

2. To adjust the sub in pro mode, you have to go into the f'ing t/a menu. Maybe that changed for the 05 decks, but the 8454 I used was a PITA.

3. I know a lot of people don't like using mp3's/iPod, but it sure as hell doesn't hurt to have the capability, and not only the capability, but some sort of ability to navigate the files. Alpine's iPod interface is the best out there for single DIN units. The MP3 search function is quite good as well.

As for the guy who said it will be generally agreed that Eclipse delivers better "SQ," I've noticed this forum almost always recommends Eclipse, but it's not nearly as prevalent on other forums.

Last, but not least, while you can't change settings on the H701 with a 9835/55, you can at least have sub control w/ the HU, something you won't have with a non AI-NET HU.

I disagree as well. If you have 30 band eq for example, you don't see the bands stopping at 80hz do you? NO. They go all the way down to 20hz. A system without low frequency (40 to 80hz) adjustment can be boomy and thats the worst thing you can have since it will hinder your ability to where you can't hear the rest of the system.

Yeah, I thought that one was pretty funny too.

I think it will be universally agreed upon that the Eclipse will give superior SQ to the Alpine.
This was the actual quote. Funny stuff since SQ is supposed to subjective.

Will I give up the rest of the nicer features I have for one band at 50hz? Hell no.

I'll take those 10bands and make the real difference, where it counts. Specially with an active fronstage.

I agree, it would be nice under pro mode . You can tune the sub freq's under normal mode using the 7 band PEQ. Under pro mode you also have the 3 band(bass/mid/treb) a click under the volume knob to make a quick on the fly cut if need be.

Picking the right volume enclosure, well dampened vehicle, position of subwoofer....can help minimize whatever boosts occur via cabin gain. This is one area I feel can go without EQ vs the fronstage which needs it most.

Its still the same in the 8455. No more time consuming than entering an Alpine DSP menu. The control is there (left and right chs if neeeded for the sub-

(wonderfully calibrated in 30 points) thats all that matters. I set mine where it needed to be to sound natural and non-intrusive, thats where its left. Once in a while I make a few db adjustments.

If you are a bass level/boost commando, that cant make up your mind how to tune setup your sub....theres the 3 band EQ for a quick tune, or just live with a few more clicks to get it. That simple. Like everything else its a matter of getting used to it-after a month I was getting in out of every corner of that deck without looking at it.

Huh? To adjust sub level on an Alpine, you push the knob and you're there.

Seems like a pretty basic function almost every $200+ deck has...Eclipse does too so long as you don't do Pro Mode.

Do you only listen to one type of music? Even with getting the sub flat with an RTA, I still have to adjust the level from time to time to get the right amount of output. A LOT of popular music now boosts the lower frequencies, and I like being able to adjust for that.
