Eclipse CD7100 vs. CD5100?

I'm looking to get a new HU to replace the factory one in my new car. I've always used Eclipse and have owned quite a few models they make. I've yet to touch their newer decks though and I am concerned about their quality nowadays. Any comments on the build/quality of their new line of decks as compared to their older ones?

Anyway, I was looking at both the CD7100 and 5100 because I can use flash drives with them. I don't care much for the major differences of the black&white screen vs. the color display. I am curious about the EQ of both units though. I would prefer the 24bit DSP and the parametric EQ of the 7100, plus the 8v preouts are definitely a bonus. But is all of that worth it compared to the 3 band parametric EQ and 5V outs of the 5100?

I can't pick. Are the 8V outs going to make a big difference over the 5's? I've never used a deck with 8 before and i've got nothing to compare it to.

Alright, so i'm not really down for spending $550 for the 7100. Would it be a smarter decision to save $200 and buy a CD7000 instead at the sacrifice of the 8V outs and the USB function? I found a deal for $330 for a NIB 7000 along with an iPod adapter. What do you think?

Heedless, how do you like the 7000?

Depends. Is the USB functionality worth that much money to you? If not, i would absolutely jump on a cd7k for 330. I paid well over that for mine USED and it didn't come with an ipod adapter. I did not notice a major difference in output quality or volume going from my previous 8v decks (cd8454, cd8051) to the current 5v cd7000. Didn't even have to re-set gains.

Uh...on the faceplate of my CD7000 it says '5V preouts'...and it did on eclipse-web when they had a page for it... where did you hear that the cd7000 came with 8v preouts?

here's a picture of the faceplate from crutchfield; note the 5v top right.

smarter would have been to buy mine that went for 400 shipped 7100 with mic and usb eclipse drive, sold

Well gee, what a useful post Igno. Glad to know you sold your shit - could you tell us that we'd be smart to use last weeks winning lottery numbers to win the lottery last week too?

A NIB 7000 w/ ipod adapter > a used 7100 with eclipse's usb drive anyway, so your statement isn't even true.

I've seen those Eclipse USB drives. Not to big I would imagine. Anyway, yah. Not really interested in the used HU thing, i'd rather be safe and buy New when it comes to that stuff.

I think I will go for the 7000, since I can live with putting music on the memory sticks I have laying around now, and since the 3V difference in outs won't make a noticable difference. It saves me $200 and change, thats enough for the amp install accessories and Dynamat. Thanks for the help!

Don't expect to put your music on those memory sticks - they **** *** and you can only read ATRAC3 formatted audio from them. If you want to play mp3s, just use a CD with a bunch of mp3's burned on it...or use the ipod adapter. I'd use the 200$ on dynamat any day vs. the 7100's usb support UNLESS you need it for your music. I have a stand alone car mp3 player that holds 2 laptop harddrives so that functionality (and, in fact, the mp3 cd functionality) is useless to me.

No biggie. I was kinda confused when they shipped the 5k with the 8v preouts but didn't on the cd7k. Seemed really counter-intuitive. I think it highlights how much the 8v preouts DON'T matter personally //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
