Eclipse CD5030

I too am waiting for this deck, after finding that Kenwood has extended using the crappy click left/right interface on the right wheel control for changing stations/songs - why one would ever do that over just simply turning the right wheel clockwise/counter-clockwise I will never know...but, I digress...

There's a thread over at Crutchfield.com on it: Eclipse 5030. In that thread, JR343 says he/she contacted Ecplise and they said it's shipping to retailers "early May"....take that for what you will.

For me, it's down to this unit, or the Clarion FZ709, but I need Clarion to post their manual for the FZ709 so I can see how the tuner and song selection works. Also, not sure how responsive their capacitve touch interface will be...that's another concern.

**** you Kenwood for screwing up the KDC-X993!!!! WTF were you thinking!!!!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif:verymad://content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif:verymad:

One thing that'd be nice to be cleared up, for those of us that won't use an amp, is what this really puts out for RMS?

The manual lists 25x4, but no mention of CEA-2006 rating, which one would think if was so rated, would be listed. Crutchfield.com - the only place as of yet to even buy this online - lists it as CEA rated, but, 14x4 RMS: That's quite a large spread I'd think (I'm no expert by any means), but Crutchfield having an RMS value 44% lower than what's listed in the manual is........strange......

Crutchfield.com doesn't have a monopoly on webspec's not matching the manual either. Eclipse's own site has discrepencies in the db values of their CD section. Maybe that's just the only discrepency, maybe not, but it's just un-nerving that these head unit manufacturers and the websites they have for their products cannot be more specific. Granted, Eclipse's website is far ahead of Kenwood's (and that's post edit's made by Kenwood), but still, how much $$$ could it possibly take to make these things perfect for our (The Customer) use?

Ya, I'm looking forward to seeing this unit. I have the 8445 which I loved for sound quality but hated the interface and display. I've got my list boiled down to:

Alpine CDA-9887

Pioneer Premier DEH-P980BT

Kenwood KDC-X993

Eclipse CD5030

The jury is still out for me on that Clarion as I don't think it has a tuner at all for FM/AM. You would also have to purchase a CD Changer for CD's?

I really want something with superior sound quality (PEQ/Time alignment) with easy IPOD functionality.

Thoughts?

Whew! That's a relief! That's a definite error for Crutchfield.com (providing Clarion's website is right)...which makes me wonder now if the 14x4 RMS rating they have for the Eclipse CD5030 is really right. 14x4...that just seems really........low......for someone like Eclipse to put out...

I care because I'm not planning to add an amp, not soon, if ever. I'm not an audio expert by any stretch of any imagination, however, 14w vs. 25w sounds to be like a huge discrepency....one that Crutchfield.com and Eclipse ought to get cleared up between themselves. If it was 14w vs. 16w, or some narrow difference, I wouldn't care. 14w being on the low side, and 25w being on the high side....that I'd like a clear picture on if at all possible.

Not sure what they rate the power at, but if it's like many amps then it's probably rated at 14.4v. Unless your vehicle has a beefy electrical system, I wouldn't count on seeing that rated power. 11 watts in this case is not going to make a big difference. Sure, it's about half, but both numbers are so low that it doesn't really matter.

thats a common rating for eclipse decks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

@RowJoe: You're saying the difference between 14w RMS and 25w RMS isn't big? I asking...I'm truly so new to this stuff that I just don't know. To me, it sounded large...granted, I know 25w RMS isn't powerful at all, but surely I thought the difference between 14w RMS and 25w RMS would be significant.

@macq32: Well, that's the thing: What's the realrating? The Eclipse manual lists the CD5030 at 25w RMS, no mention of CEA cert...Crutchfield lists the CD5030 at 14w RMS, with a CEA cert.

Which is correct? Or, are both correct, and the Eclipse 25w rating is truly not CEA cert, and that's why it's so high as compared to Crutchfield? This is what I meant in it'd be nice to know what the real story is here...
