I have a friend with a double DIN AVN2454 that is willing to sell it to me for $800 it was used for 3 months, in an M3. He is adament that this is exactly the same unit as the 5500, just that the 5500 is the 06 version. Is this true if not what is the difference in the two and is this a good price?

correct me if im wrong but a higher preout would mean less gain from the amp and a cleaner signal correct? Does this mean with the 2v I have more potential of hearing engine noise?

I think the Nav discs may have been updated on the 5500.

how easy is it to pirate these nav disks? i know thats not the right thing to do but I don't think 200-300 is a realistic price for updated maps, but i might be wrong on that price i tihnk thats just what i remember people saying the price is.

The 2454 does not have preouts...
Are you sure? I got a unit that didn't have any of the plugs in the back, and I purchased a set of preout plugs for the unit? Are you sure you aren't thinking of the avx2494?

Also IIRC the voltage is actually .8v, but really if the install is fine, there shouldnt be a problem anyways.

Maybe I am thinking of the 2494. A co-worker of mine bought one and had a full system in his car already (4 channel amp and a sub amp). We made fun of him for the longest time because it didn't have any pre-outs. He ended up selling it on Ebay and picking up a Pioneer AVH-P6800.

It is the 2494 that doesnt have any. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

5500..Sirius and iPod capable,5V preouts, newer map disc (try buying one for less than $250). More sensitive panel,Volume shifted to the left side, Better overall cosmetics,etc...

There are justifiable price differences here.
