easy question about distortion

i get some distortion at zero volume when my gains are all the way up.... i turn them down some and the noise goes away.. my music is obviously not as loud anymore...

was the music i was playing at full gain b4 distorted but i couldnt tell?..

if i set gain correctly would the noise at zero volume go away?

first correctly set your gains. and what type of amp do you have and what ohm load are you running it

directed d2205 120W * 4 at 2 ohms + 400 watts * 1at 2 ohms...

can i use a silent cd to set gains?
