E- brake input on JVC KW-NX7000

I am installing a JVC nav unit in a hot rod that I built and the unit calls for the connection of a wire to the E-brake switch. They do not state what purpose this wire serves, but I would guess that it keeps you from viewing video if the brake is not set, is this correct, and can I just over-ride this by grounding out the wire? The car I built has no E-brake switch, so I just need to understand what and how this wire functions.
