DVD head units?

Im a beginner in car audio. I'm interested in getting a head unit that is able to play DVDs as well as CDs. I do have two sub amp and one mids/highs amp so I will need at least a pre-out of 4 volts, right? What features should I look for? Could a DVD/CD head unit drop in place of a pioneer premier head unit. Budget is max of $400, new or used. Thanks.
