Well, today I got to listen to my system for the first time. Let me first say that the system fvcking hits! Those L7s are something else. The bass coming out that port is just crazy!
However, from the beginning, the shop had told me the Dynaudios would not get loud and probably would come up short in relation to the bass. So, we fab'ed some kick panels and added on some MB Quartz 5.25 and tweets to try and even out the sound, but even with the addition of the kicks and MB Quartz, the highs were still lacking.
A Kicker engineer just happened to show up in a '61 Impala with an all Kicker system also installed by the shop doing my system. Well, after listening to his setup you could definitely hear the difference. He was running 4 RS6 component sets with 3 L7s in a bandpass box and it sounded perfect (even balance of bass and highs- bass was going max).
So after a little deliberation, I decided to remove the Dynaudio's from the custom fab'ed doors and go with 2 RS6 sets in the doors, the MB Quartz' in the kicks and another set of RS6s in the rear (behind the seats).
I know some of you may disagree with this change, but I really thought the RS6s sound much louder (not quite as sharp of the Dynaudios but for me, not enough to persuade me to keep the Dynaudios).
The shop started tearing out the door panels today and will start on a new design for the doors to house the new components.
