so if i tune my box to 35 will it sould louder compared to it tuned to 30

im about to build a box for 2 type r 12s thats about 3.8 cubes wont be doing any comps just want it to be loud to the ear

In theory, the lower the tuning, the louder it is to the ear. But I am not too sure if that is true or not. It seems to be.

I think when you have a higher tuned box, you feel it more in your body rather than feeling it in your ear.

I know the higher the tuning, the louder it is to the mic

im building a box thats 4 cubes at 32 hz here in a couple days for my 2 12" Type R's...seems to be middle of the road for size and hz level, not to mention its the biggest box i can fit in my car! heh I'll tell you how it sounds though here in a couple weeks if i can ever decide what amp i want //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

that seems all backwards to me.

higher tuning will make the peak SPL higher (dB's) and it will peak at a higher frequency (Hz)

lower tuned box will have more low end extension, but a lower peak loudness.

i would think that the lower frequencies would be more felt and the higher ones heard.

but 140dB's at 30Hz will sound louder than 140dB's at 50Hz (to the ear).

i remember runnin test tones to my 1.75 cu ft ported box tuned to 35 hz when i had my 12'' kicker cvr and i ran a 35 hz one and the output was loud and could feel it in my seat pretty good then went up to a 50 hz one and it was louder by a little bit more and i could really feel it in my seat, i was bored one day and had a really shitty day so i threw on some bass, just thought i share this //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif oh yeah i was in a mcdonalds drivethrough doin the tests and puttin out 500 watts to the sub //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
