Dual XDVD710 and iPOD?

As stated have a Dual xdvd710 and 2nd gen ipod nano

I have the iPlug interface adapter....and it receives 3.5mm

So what comes from ipod?...a 3.5mm male to 3.5mm cable male (thats how I have it hooked up now to aux)

I see the ipod in the sources menu but its not selectable.

I thought I was about to control ipod from touch instead of iPod? Like select the songs?

Or is my iPod to old. Its a second gen...I would think older was better?
