Dual Voice Coil? Help me understand...

Series and parallel have to do with the wiring configuration of the driver not the amp. The final impendence (what the sub is wired to in the end) is what the amp sees, and that is how you need to search for an amp according to max power per impendence. Say you dual 4 ohm sub is wired to 2 ohms, you hook it up and the amp puts out the maximum wattage it can at that particular impendence (2 ohms). There is a sticky at the top of the wiring, ect part of the forum, its straight to the point has plenty of diagrams to let you figure it out.

Really really dont mind answering your questions, if theres something else, dont hesitate.

No, you cant use that amp, what does it put out at 2 ohms though?...You can only wire a dual 4 ohm DVC to 2 and 8 ohms. What does the 800 produce at 4 ohms per channel?
why can't he use that amp. that amp is a power house and stable to 1 ohm i think? I would suggest that u use the audiobahn1002dt assissan.

Ohhhhh I think I get it now. When the 4ohm DVC SUB is wired in parallel, it draws the 2 ohm load from whatever amp you're using...?

But why do the specs for the JL 12W6V2 say "Dual 4 ohm only" ?? What's the deal with the "only"?

I'm assuming that does NOT mean I can't wire it to 2 ohms for one of the amps we were talking about. But the wording of it kinda seems that way.

Perhaps reading the thread before responding with ill founded advise would be beneficial next time. BTW, dont listen to me, go ahead and hook the DVC up with one coil.

Anyways, yes that is how it works. Im assuming that the model sub ONLY is produced in a DVC 4ohm configuration hense the only. Its just a mathematical equation, not something genuinly original for that certain speaker. Any others just ask, did you look at the speaker wiring sticky?, that should give you an idea.......

inhumab peep this.

Ok he has the dual 4 ohm voice jlw6v2.

a dual 4ohm sub wired in parallel to itself would yeld 2 ohms. ok that amp he has is nice. It is an audiobahn A12001DT. It is 400x1@4 ohms, 750x1@2 ohms, and 1200x1@1 ohms so how will that amp not work. And it is an class d tooo. so it will not put a big strain on his eletrcial system and it will be more efficent.

_how u luv dat!!!!! *****

with the technology going into the new subs, power doesn't mean much anymore, before their was an advantage DVC or SVC, but you know able to have SVC with same power abilities has the DVC, the only disadvantage with the SVC thier is only about 2 different ways to wire it, wire thier is about 4 or 5 for DVC, or depending on the ohms of the sub

Since a JL 12W6V2 can handle 400RMS and it has dual voice coils, I should find an amp that pushes approximately 200x2 INSTEAD of an amp that does 400x1... RIGHT?!?!?!
Thanks
LX- Like you said his amp will do 750rms @ 2ohms, and like his very first post says he has a 400rms sub.

Im not going to argue the fact that it is indeed possible. But, rather than have someone new to the field (absolutly no offence intended), who doesnt really know the ins and outs blow his sub because I or anyone else told him he could do it if he set it right.

instead of starting a new thread, i'll post my question here since its related....

i recently purchased two kicker compVR 10" 2 ohm DVC subs, along with a jbl bp600.1 mono amp. the rms for the subs are rated at 300w each. the way i understood it, i could have the subs wired in a combination of parallel/series (parallel to the amp and each sub wired in series to itself). i based this off of other posts in other forums, as well as this example:

http://www.jlaudio.com/tutorials/wiring/index.html#2dvcsp

anyway, i had the subs and amp installed at circuit city (mistake #1) and the guy said that that configuration wouldn't work, and that my amp was not powerful enough for those subs. needless to say, i didn't believe him, but i'm such a newbie when it comes to car audio, i didn't know HOW to tell him he was wrong, lol! so he proceeded to wire the subs in parallel, which I THINK is only supplying 150w per sub. i just need to know if the parallel/series wiring is the correct way to go, or was the circuit city guy actually right?!?!? any help would be greatly appreciated, as i feel really lost right now!
