dual audioque hd or magnum 15's?

im getting ready to upgrade as soon as i sell my rl-p's, and i've got it about narrowed down. im looking to spend 500-800 for a pair of 15's to use in a 5-6 ft^3 sealed box in my 87 ***** am. going to power them with a modded crossfire 2000d, so i could give the pair about 2200 watts at 2 ohms or 2500ish @ 1 ohm.

i went the SQ route with the rl-p's, and they just arent loud enough for me. i want that system you dont even want to turn up again, but i dont want to altogether abandon SQ. audioque/DD woofers are not all out spl beasts right, aside from the 9900s? im guessing the HD would be like 70/30 in favor of spl? still listenable for classic rock and quicker beats?

any other suggestions for 1000-1500 watt speakers in that price range that work well sealed?

i realize any decent pair of 15's is going to slam in a hatchback with that power, but i want it stupid loud.

I know nothing about the RL-p's, but I was reading your sig... Why not port them and see if you like them that way. You could tune low, still have SQ and more output. Just a thought.

 
i would, but as far as i can tell, its **** near impossible to build a properly ported box for 2 12's in my car, and keep the back seat. i've posted a couple of threads asking for help designing the ports themselves, but i didnt get a lot of help. (i could build a 6 ft^3 box for it, but there isnt really room for a properly sized port anywhere)

i could do one, probably even 1 15 ported, but i'm betting the pair of sealed 15's would be louder and sound better.

i was kind of leaning toward the mags as well, but i was thinking the hd's would be noticebly louder even sealed and not sound a whole lot worse.

any other opinions?

 
the box i have now is 2.9 without the subs in it. if i built the same box, but made another section to extend to the backs of the back seats, i'd have around 5.5. i could build it another inch or two taller as well, and maybe get to around 6 cubic feet.

any other suggestions? adire still makes the brahma in that price range don't they? whats the new brahma all about? didnt occur to me until today at work, but those would work great with my amp since they dont need so much power as most of the other uber 15's.

at this point im willing to substantially sacrifice sq for spl. i DONT want a burping machine or one note wonder, since its going to be used for daily music, and probably 70 percent rock/jam bands, but i want stupid loud. would death penalties fit that description and be in that price range?

also remember these are sealed ONLY, and i need them to go LOW. im talking loud to the ear and body, not mic.

BTW, i posted a few pictures of the box in my car now in this thread, if you want to see what it looks like. nothing too fancy, but it gets the job done, and looks awesome in the car, blends in nicely but would look better extending about 20 inches forward to the seats.

stick to the mags, brahma's maybe 3 12" cvx becuase all of those subs loved sealed boxs hd's and death penalites hate them and its very hard/next to impossible trying to make a ported box in that car. I hope your going to lower the front or something becuase that car is going to look awfully funny with all that weight in the back my back droped an 1" and a half with 3 10" subs 15 lbs each and a small box in the back and not very heavy amps.

 
The mags sealed will give you very impressive SQ and output. In a ported enclosure you can get 2 12 inch mags above 150db's without much trouble at all. Not to mention you will still have the great SQ the mags produce. Sealed you will get even more amazing SQ from the mags and still have a very very loud sub. I am pretty sure you would be more than satisfied with the output of a mag in a sealed enclosure.

 
i've been saying for months i dont have the skill required (if its even doable) to design a properly ported enclosure in my car (keeping the back seat). take a look at the box im using a couple posts back. there isnt enough space that i can see for a port.

actually now that i really think about it, couldnt i have the port extend farther away from the box and get the same result? like have it facing up, but sticking 4 or 5 inches above the box? how would i want to aim it, forward, angled forward, or straight up? i couldnt really face it backwards.

if anyone here would be willing to help me design it, i'll buy the plans. i'll be all about building another box.

 
after toking some fo the dankest nugget, i had a moment of clarity. a vision, if you will. wait a few weeks for the new re's to come out. if the xxx's are all they're hyped to be, build a ported box for one 15 and let fools know. i'm pretty sure my vr2000d will get that thing rolling.

anyone care to help me with the design, or sell me some plans, point me in the direction of someone who could, or ANYTHING? i've been askin for months and nobody wants any part of it. i've never designed a ported box and wouldnt want to try my first one with this car, but i dont think it would be difficult for a seasoned designer.
