I have decided that i am going to buy 2- Alpine 1242d or 1222d instead of 2- PG Xenon 12d4. My question is which one should i get ? Dual 2 ohm or dual 4 ohm? I am going to be pushing with my JL 500/1. It states that it is stable 1.5-4ohms at 500rms. I figured that if it cant be stable at 2 ohms i will just bridge up to 4 ohms. What should I do??

I would personally get 2 dual 4 ohm subs, so that It can come out with 4 as my final load, which is more ideal for the amp. As for did u pick the right subs, well everyone has different tastes, so I couldnt comment to much on that, but the alpine is a decent sub. You should be happy with it. Get the dual 4 ohm versions, your amp will like you more if you do.

It would put less stress on the amp running it at 4 ohms, so why run it lower. It doesnt make any since to put more stress on an amp running it at 2 ohms if it will put out full power at 4 ohms. Just makes more sense imo to run it at the higher load.

It wouldnt stress the amp, it would getting the workout it was intended to have. There really is nothing wrong with it. The components in the amplifier (especially one of JL standards) are built to easily comply with whatever ratings they have been given.

But hey, if yall dont want to use the amplifier for what it was intended to do because you dont want to "stress" it, then ok. Im just saying it wouldnt be stressed unless you dropped the final load below 1.5ohms.

Any time you run an amp at lower loads it will put more stress on it. So without a doubt 2 ohms would put more stress on it then 4. Im not saying the jl cant handle it, because I know it can, but why run it lower if your subs come in dual 4 ohms. Any one knows the lower the independence the more stress on the amp. I dont care what amp you have, thats how it works. That would be the reason why my jbl amp runs warmer at 1 ohms than at 2. Although it always stays pretty cool, it runs warmer at 1 obviously.

Read the words I am typing guy, I know about electricity and resistance, im just telling you, its not going to make a difference if he runs it at 2ohms. He wont tell a difference in anything running it at 2ohms except MAYBE a little temperature. Im not pushing for D2, im just letting him know nothing is going to happen if he runs his amp at 2ohms because you are making it seem that way.

Read my words guy. I never said he would get any difference in performance running it at 2 ohms. I said running it at 4 ohms would put less stress on it, which means it would run cooler.
