Dual 10" Polk DB's

I can't get them to sound right. THey sound muddy and sound liek a flopping fish. Iv tried troubleshooting everything! I think i may have ruined them due to under powering them for too long, high gain, and silicone fumes. This was before i read up and actually learned a thing or two about them. I took them out of my car and tried them in a freinds and it still sounded muddy, so i don't think its my wiring.

So I guess im gonna try getting some new 10"s. Kinda on a budget. I am now running a kicker 400.1. I plan on running two 4 ohm subs parrallel to get a 2 ohm 400watt power supply. So im looking for a10inch subs that can handle 400 watts.

Also: The peak power is 570watts.....can i run a constant 400into it? Willthe kicker 400.1 burn up if i run two 4ohm 10's at 2 ohms?

just more info, they arent dual voice coil. And maybe it is an enclosure problem...there are some leaks but they are the size of a small screw holoe. will that affect it that much.

The box volume is about a little less then 2 cu feet, used 3/4 mdf, sealed with silicone. It's a sealed box.

yes even small holes will effect the sound dramatically..i went thru this with my old beater system with 2 infinity reference 10's..i dropped the box and it had a small crack..i couldnt see it due to the carpet on the box..when i fixed it it was like a day and night difference..the subs stopped bottoming out and just sounded the way they should have..im not saying this is the problem you are experiencing but i guarantee its not helping..like i said test the vc on each sub..if they are four ohm subs they should read around 4 ohms..+- a few tenths. if they read something crazy then you know you have blown speakers..

OK ill do that and make a new box. Ineed your help on testing the ohms out. What tool do i use? A multi meter? Do i do it when when the subs are playing?

Im sorry im relaly new to electrical equipemnt so i dont know how to measure this stuff.

And btw...thanks for the quick replies. This is my first post here and im glad that im already getting help within the first few minutes.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

O and one sub makes like a wierd sound now which makes me thinkg its blown out...It sounds like one of this coffe mmakers or water boilers. little popping sounds.

the popping sound could b from the tinsel leads along the spider to the coil check them 2 c if they are loose or broken if not ur coil could be coming aloose from the back of the cone
