Download VS CD

I was just thinking that very same thing reading these other posters thinking that 192kb/s even remotely approaches CD quality //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
Good to see ya posting here even though I'm sure it's real temporary //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wave.gif.002382ce7d7c19757ab945cc69819de1.gif
May be temporary, may not be...we'll see how it goes. It seemed to have quieted down a lot around here.

Those graphs do show the effect of compression but they don't necessarily demonstrate real world differences. Our ears and aural memory are horrible and therefore very susceptible to suggestion. Maybe you have, but if you haven't, download foobar and try out their abx test. It was a huge eye opener to me. I would be willing to bet, without a little practice at least, you can't tell the difference between 192kbps mp3 and a wav rip.

I really want to know what that program is, too ;0)

I dont know about the rest of you, but not only can I tell the difference between a burned copy off an original, but I can also hear the difference off of a store bought CD and a Master CD. For anyone that doesnt know what a master is its a disc thats made right off the 4 track from the studio and is gold covered and actually see through. Very hard to find but far better sounding in my opinion. I only have two, both U2 discs. War and Unforgetable Fire, and I also own actual mass produced store copies and burnt copys of all of them. Its a noticable difference from one level to the next. With that said, if you are unsure of a new album than Download, but if you like it and are gonna actually listen to it more than once you should be buying it.

I'm certainly not calling you a liar, but I'm curious if your listening tests were done in a controlled environment or if you just listened to the different recordings at different times? The placebo effect is very real, as is user bias. Again, not calling you a liar, but could it be possible that maybe you thought one was supposed to sound better and therefore did in your mind?

You're full of it... You do realize CD's are not analog, they are digital... when you burn a cd, you are just burning tons of 1's and 0's. A burned CD of an original should have close to the exact same pattern of 1's and 0's as the original, AND the same as the "master". Your burning software must ****... or your equipment.

my AC/DC CD sounds the same as the burn copy i made for back up after doing a lossless rip and burnt it in CD format on a good CD with a good burner at a low rotation rate.

512MP3 conversion also sounds identical to my ears, all listened to wone right after the other in my truck and in my room. Frankly i havent been able to detect any difference between original CD and properly ripped and converted and burnt CD's from 256 on up. i can SEE the difference on the comptuer screen, but it is hardly audible unless you know what you are looking for. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

x2, either it was a horribly produced CD or your listening environments/eqiptment where different.

and well, not 1's and 0's as much as clear and opaque...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif
