Well whats everyones opinion of building a box out of doubled 5/8 vs single 3/4? The box that I am building would take 3 sheets of 3/4 and the price here in my little town has gone way the heck up ($27 six months ago $40-42 now) and I found someone selling 5/8 for $9 a sheet. Using doubled 5/8 would save me $66.

Ya I figured that I would be using plenty of glue and screws but I just happen to have a gallon of wood glue at work that we aren't going to use.

The only problem about the weight would be getting the box in and fasting it down but its going in a 3/4 ton deisel pick-up so a little extra weight wont hurt much.

I have a 1/2 ton truck, and I never really worry about the weight. I'll be putting in about 750lbs of audio in a little bit...

With 5/8s you should only need to double the baffle, the rest will most likely be find depending on what you are building.

Edit i just realized you said 3 sheets of mdf, what the hell are you building a wall?

Close, I don't want to wall it because of visability. The more I look at how eveything is going to fit its comming closer to biing a wall. 2-21's. Been doing some measuring and I think I am going to have to break down and pay the outragous price of 3/4 mdf. doubling 5/8 is going to drop me down to much on air space without walling it. I wish I had a flip-out so I could install a backup cam or something. This is my daily driver/ worktruck so I drive it quite a bit so I want to keep my visability.

If you don't already have the subs I'd suggest going with some 18s or 15s then. There's no reason to block your vision out the back windown if that's a priority.

I say go for it. Just add some kind of bracing to the bigger panels. Some old home speaker boxes were made of 3/8" mdf. Maybe not even mdf, some...

Yea. That's what I did. I mixed the glue with the dust from sanding and fill in the bigger holes. Then filled the rest with wood filler..works awesome

Yes Should be easy with a flush trim bit in a router and will allow OP to hide any screws/nails used along edges.
