OK, I live in Chicago and sounds get stolen constantly. So what I need to know is what do I need to install to prevent this? A crossover or EQ's. I want to be able to cut off my subs at any time, particulary a mile or two away from my house so no one in the hood knows i have them. Also, if I need any of this, whats the best for the price, you know quality, or does it matter if all I need it for is to cut off the bass. And if any of you guys have suggesstions on prevention of theft let me know. A friend if mine told me to put some bobwire around and in my box. all suggestions are appreciated.

Crossovers filter out the high or low notes for speakers that aren't made to play them, there is most likely a crossover built into your amp to filter out the high notes going to the sub. An EQ is for matching the output of your system at different frequencies.

If your head unit has a sub level adjustment, then just use that to turn down your subs before you get to your house. A better solution is to get an amp with remote bass level adjustment, and you can install a knob on the dash for sub volume. You can also buy a remote bass knob that plugs in line with your RCA cables, and works with any amp. The bass level knob on the dash comes in handy.

"the land of the stolen sounds"...walking down the street, you see this little dog yapping, but not making any noise...someone stole its sound //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

sorry, j/k

anyway, what you need is a switch on the remote wire. A friend of mine has this exact thing installed so with a flip of his foot, he can shut off the amp. Just get a switch (footswitch, flip switch in the dash, whatever's most convienent to you) and wire it in series with the remote wire.

you would need a "volume adjustment button" now if you have a realy expensive HU chances are it is equiped with one... in fact even a $10 HU would have one //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

The switch thing is also a good idea, but you don't want to flip the switch while playing full blast, depending on your amps this could produce some very nasty soundeffects that I don't believe your subs will appreciate...

Rather than installing a special switch or adding a control knob of some sort, can't you just turn the volume down or off when approaching area's where you want to be discrete?? Doesn't every system have volume & power controls??
