I read to use wood glue and clamps to create a seal between pieces of MDF. I also read on a post on here not to use wood glue to seal it, instead use silicon caulk. The person who said this is knowledgable, i am just asking why? Is it seriously supposed to replace using wood glue at all? how can silicon caulk create a better seal than wood glue? OR was he referring to using silicon caulk to seal the box AFTER construction, not using it to seal the box DURING construction...somebody clear it up...

thanks!

the wood glue is used to help hold it together, hence the name GLUE, but it may also help to fill small cracks between pieces of wood. you should still caulk the cracks on the inside for some extra sealage, better safe than sorry.

Or do what I do, Coat the entire inside surface of the box in about 1/4 of an inch of Fiberglass resin, Seals the box and help strengthen the box a little.
x2 works really well //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

The glue IS what holds it together. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

alright guys thanks for the responses...for some reason i thought i was supposed to REPLACE the glue with silicon caulk...now i know....use glue to hold it and use silicon caulk to fill in the cracks from the inside

Gorilla glue isn't close to a wood glue. Any woodglue will usually be better than a polyurethane glue such as Gorrila or Elmers PolyPower. Both are strong, but are merely adhesives (the wood is just stuck together, versus bonded together like wood glue). I'm using Titebond I right now to see how I like it.

It does expand quite a bit, but I have never had any problems with alignment of panels. There are many choices of glues to use and they all basically do the same thing. If you screw your panels together there should not be any problems with the expansion of the gorilla glue, at least not that I have had.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
