Don't know what else to do, Please Help

Hey everyone, I installed a pair of rainbow cmx components (150RMS) which are hooked to a mtx ta3404 amp. The amp puts out about 60x4 @ 4 ohms RMS or 200x2 RMS @ 4 ohms bridged. I tried both regular and bridged hookups, but in both setups the speakers would distort before they got loud and the amp will clip and shut off temporarily. I though there was a problem with my amp at first, so I borrowed my friend's Treo 75.5 amp and hooked the speakers up bridged. The same thing happened, the amplifier clipped and shut off. I then turned all the bass down from the door speakers which helped them get a little louder without sounding terrible but the amp would still shut down. I thought there was a problem with my ground so I re grounded the amp to bare metal which I scraped with a metal brush. The new grounding did not make a difference. I was thinking then that maybe my amp wasn't getting enough power so I hooked up my 0 agu wire to the amp, which made no difference. Next, I tried switching out the RCA's but, once again, this made no difference. I previously had 4 way pioneer that I had the same problem with but, I just assumed the cause was low end speakers. I am starting to think that there is a prob with my head unit, I can't think of anything else... I have a Eclipse CD5000 with 8 volt pre output. I am thinking this might be the problem. I would greatly appreciate any help or suggestions.

Thanks,

Chris Thomas

Maybe check the wires going out to your speakers. Sounds like the one thing you haven't looked at. Could be one is pinched or the insulation cut causing it to ground. Try just running one side and disconnect the other speaker at the amp.

do you have a inline fuse coming from the battery to the amp? if so make sure its good.......get a dmm and check the voltage of the hot wire going to the amp (at the amp)........could be a bad fuse and the only voltage the amp is getting is from the remote wire.......ive seen that happen before......//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thanks for your feed back. I don't think it is a fuse prob. I ran 2 separate power wires with two different fuses to the amp already. You said there could be a problem with the remote wire? I also previously ran a saz-1500d amp that powered an RE xxx 12" sub to the same ground point and there was no clipping from that class D amp.

As for the speaker wires, I changed the ones going from the HU to the amp which didn't make a difference. Thanks for the help, any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Would low end RCA'S cause this much problem? Both sets of RCA'S I used were the crappy. One was a friend's walmart ones, and the other was from a Sound Quest 4 gauge amp kit.

Thanks

I bought some KnuKoncepts ss karma RCAs, hopefully that will help something. I'm gana get a voltmeter to check the voltage. Any more ideas?

polarity issue??? IMO - disconnect the speakers, take them out and connect directly to the amp while holding the speaker with min ft of speaker wire (new) - try each channel seperately with each speaker - see which one is not correct, could have strands touching causing a jump which will cause a short... if this works and it does not happen, then as mentioned before when installing the speaker wire it may have cut causing a short.

Thanks, I tried already hooking the speakers directly to the amp but didn't try different channels. I will try this but don't think it will work because I already switched out the amp with a totally different amp and still had the same problem. Thanks for the imput

I tried that, I think there are 4 (aux, front, back, fader) I switched around the front, back, and fader ones. Didn't really help anything though. Thanks for all the help
