Dont flame me! Odd box building idea

Not trying to be a cheapa$$ or anything, but I had a question that I was curious about

I have like 3 boxes, ported and sealed. I had built the boxes mostly the same sizes to fit my hatchback. The dimensions were mainly 32x34x14 or so.

Is it even possible to reuse some of the panels if building a new box??

I wanna use aero ports and one box I have has a slot port. Thats the only thing that would be different if I made a whole new box just for an aero port style box. The boxes I built were built in the last year or 2.

I assume the glue holding the panels together wouldnt come apart clean anyway

the crazy idea just crossed my mind.

About the best you can do is cut some holes in the sealed box & put aeros in.. other than that, you wanna start from scratch.

Reusing panels is like reusing needles, you do it.. you get hep C.

if you can get the wood peices to be in good enough shape when you disassmble the old boxes it could work fine. would i do it? no. i have tried to get a box apart once to see if any peices were salvagable but the glue made them a mess. with a little time and some sanding though who knows hat you could accomplish

and you been here since '04.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

yeah but I never really read up much on building enclosures in the past until recently

Also, I never read any posts about reusing MDF or not, so like I said, I was just curious. Not that laughable actually

Where Im from, MDF is like $40 a sheet, have no idea why its so high considering all there is to look at around here are forests. Plus I dont have a truck to drive 40km to get sheets when I want them

Just take the box apart, and cut off the glued ends. The middle of each side is fresh mdf waiting to be used...
I agree. I would cut all 4 sides about an inch or 2 down to make sure all of the screw holes get cut away. You will be fine with that. You might end up needed to buy another sheet though.

good idea

however, if I cut an inch or 2 on each end, the pieces will end up being too short. But it would let me save a lot of pieces.

i do it all the time its not that bad even though you glue it, its still usuable flip it over hell doesn't matter what it look llike on the outside but you can do what you will man if you want to waste money an get more wood go ahead.

I save all my old boxes because you never know when you might need a smaller piece of mdf that you can salvage from them //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Like for instance I took my huge dual ported box, cut it in half, and re-attached the back to make a quick small sealed box. Was it pretty? No. But was it functional, quick, and free? Yep //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i have done this a couple times with old boxes to make test box's.... just take all screws out and start tapping the corners apart making your way around.... you could just knock the port wall out of the one with a port make a second baffle for the aeros
