hey i am wanting a dog for my son. i like the huskies. should i get the smaller husky or the malimute? would these dogs be better more up north? anyone have one of these?

hairy dogs get hot, if you live in a warm climate get a short haired dog.

I have an Akita. He does pretty good in the heat(North Texas), lays on the tile floor whenever he gets too hot. He sheds twice a year, though, but with regular brushing it isn't too bad.

Get a Corgie, looks like a huskie but with dashund(sp) legs.

Just get a Lab...Great conpanions, athletic, and smart (my Lab is atleast).

Labs are good family dogs as well. They just have that hip displysia(sp) like crazy!

i've owned both a husky and a malamute, definatly dont recomend a malamute for the in experienced handler, they are very high energy dogs, highly intelligent, and easily bored. They definatly like the cooler weather, huskies are very similar. i would suggest doing some research on other breeds for your son first.

akita's are not necessarily good with children
