Does this Phoenix Gold have enough power

Hi guys, been away from the car audio game for a year or two.

A friend at work has a couple of Phoenix Gold MS 275 amps for sale.

Question is, would one of these be enough to run my two 10" Infiniti Kappas?

My subs call for 250w RMS @4 ohms apiece. The amp is rated 2x75w @4 ohms.

Sounds underpowered to me but everyone keeps telling me that this amp would even be overkill and that it is really underrated. Could someone enlighten me please. the manual for the MS 275 says that the amp turns off if the total RMS output goes over 350 watts so it couldnt be putting out to terribly much power. Im curious what the real work RMS output is gonna be per channel. THANKS

Just looking for one straight answer before I buy one! thanks experts! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

i would run that amp as a mids and tweeter amp, but if you just want to add some bass and are not trying to be a ground pounder it will work for you..

it is a underated amp...and a very well built amp....strong for its little size..

specs:

2 x 75W @ 4 ohms (12V)

2 x 100W @ 4 ohms (13.8V)

2 x 125W @ 2 ohms (12V)

2 x 140W @ 2 ohms (13.8V)

1 x 225W @ 4 ohms bridge (13.8V)

I have no idea how underrated these might be, but based on ratings, one on each sub should work nice. Those amps are badass, so I would try to scoop a couple up anyway. You could always use them to power some components if you upgrade the substage later on.

How many are there and how much?

I have one...and have owned a few in the past...they are nice amps...They came in white and grey and I think there was a black one...They have a really nice gold plated circuit board that looks pretty sweet under custom clear lexan or plexy lids....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thanks so much I think I will go for it then! Two more questions tho:

1) Would you guys normally want to only give 75 watts to a speaker that recommends 250 watts? I'm still put off by the thought of not having enough power for the woofer.

2) In the stats below, whats the difference between the 12V and 13.8V? What determines that voltage?

2 x 75W @ 4 ohms (12V)

2 x 100W @ 4 ohms (13.8V)

2 x 125W @ 2 ohms (12V)

2 x 140W @ 2 ohms (13.8V)

1 x 225W @ 4 ohms bridge (13.8V)

All depends on how efficient the sub is and how loud you want to get. You can get away with less power by running a ported enclosure too.

That voltage difference is basically the difference between running the amp with the car of and running it with the car on.

I'll assume 13.8V is with the car on ;p

These two 10" Infiniti Kappa DVC's are in a sealed box.

I'm looking thrugh Ebay to see what you can get for the same amount of money and I see I can get a used JL 450/4 where I would get twice as much wattage to my subs as well as have two more channels to run my components off of. Is this better idea?

The guy has 3 of these MS275's for sale for like $225-$250 apiece...

for that price you coul easily find something better for you application. just get a mono amp that puts out power at one ohm, and sava yourself $200
