Does this mean i need a better battery?

OK, so when the car is off and i turn the volume up loud, my bass cuts off, usually during long notes. Then i turn it down and it's all fine again. If i turn on my car then it doesn't have this problem.

So do i need a better battery or possibly a second one?

Your battery plays a key role in your electrical even when your car is running. If the bat can't handle the system with the car off it's probably an indicator you need to replace it (if you don't already have a dry cell) or add a second one in the trunk if you do.
